Gainsborough Trinity 1 – 1 Harrogate Town

27 August 2012

A tremendous second half performance enabled Town to gain an unlikely point at the Northolme.

Craig Radcliffe made his first start of the season, replacing the injured Adam Bolder.

Alan White broke up two early Gainsborough raids before Chib Chilaka drove a Dwayne Samuels pass into the side netting.

Trinity, prompted by the mercurial Terry Hawkridge began to turn the screw.

Jose Veiga denied Bradley Barraclough and Shane Killock was injured making a vital tackle.

After 20 minutes White was penalised for handball while defending a corner and Hawkridge blasted home from the penalty spot.

Within a minute Hawkridge rattled the Town crossbar as Trinity piled on the pressure and Greg Young just failed to reach a centre, but Town made it to half time only trailing by one goal.

At the break Paul Beesley and Lee Elam replaced Robbie Youhill and Craig Radcliffe.

This revitalised Town and Elam soon shot across goal from a Samuels pass.

On the hour,Town were reduced to ten men when White received a second yellow for a foul on Barraclough.

Incredibly, three minutes later Town were level.

Elam found Luke Dean whose through ball was hammered home by Beesley from just inside the area, giving Jan Budtz no chance.

Town were forced into a rearguard action, as Trinity, prompted by a series of Dom Roma crosses, pushed for the winner.

In rare Town breakaways,Killock and Beesley headed wide, but Trinity’s unmarked Connor wasted a great chance when he headed over.

In the last minute, a Trinity header was ruled out by the linesman’s offside flag, ensuring the ten men held out for a valuable point.
