York Police puzzled over theft of jigsaw piece

York police are investigating after a large sign was stolen from the front of a shop in the city centre.

Sometime between 6pm on Monday 25 June 2012 and 8.30am on Tuesday 26 June 2012, a large wooden sign with brass lettering was stolen from outside Jigsaw, on Stonegate.

The sign which is 52 inches long and 4.5 inches wide displays the company name in big brass letters.

The sign is one of a pair. The other of the two remains outside the shop.

Officers have been making enquiries in the area an effort to trace the sign and are now appealing for the public’s help.

PC Karl May, of York police, said:

I am appealing to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the city centre around the time of the incident to get in touch..

If you were out in the city and saw anything unusual please contact the police or Crimestoppers, as you may have information which will be helpful to our enquiries.

Anyone who can help officers locate the sign is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Karl May or York police.
