Harrogate and District Branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild win Gold

26 June 2012

Members of the Harrogate and District Branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild, are celebrating after winning a Gold Award at the International Sugarcraft Exhibition held at The International Centre, Telford, Shropshire on the weekend of the 19 and 20 May 2012.

They have previously had Gold successes at the North of England Sugarcraft Exhibitions in 2007 and 2009 held at The Pavilions of Harrogate. But to receive such an accolade at the first International Exhibition since 2004, is special.

There was no specified theme but the members decided to depict the “Five Rings Pub Games”, as no reference to the actual Olympics was allowed by anyone other than official sponsors. Many disciplines of a sugarcrafter’s art were on display including royal icing, marzipan, sugarpaste, modelling work, gelatine and floral.

The Harrogate Branch is a small friendly group and meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7.30 pm (except in August) at the The Green Hut on Harlow Avenue (HG2 0AS) when there are either demonstrators or workshops.

At the moment the branch has around 25 members. Visitors and new members are very welcome. For further details, check out our web-site www.harrogatesugarcraftguild.org.uk or call Lesley Dalton of 01423 871822 or Judy Banks on 01943 604318.
