Vehicle drives into Chelker Reservoir during A65 traffic incident

PoliceAt around 1.20pm today (15 May 2012) a black Land Rover Defender, heading towards Addington from Skipton, left the road before crashing through a wall and into Chelker Reservoir.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman believed to be in her 50s, and her passenger, an 89-year-old woman, managed to get themselves out of the vehicle to safety.

The driver is believed to have escaped uninjured, however the 89-year-old woman suffered a head injury in the incident. She was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment. The extent of her injuries are unknown at this time.

The road was closed in both directions for a number of hour as police conducted their investigations into the collision and recovered the vehicle from the reservoir.

Officers are appealing to any witnesses to the collision to get in touch. Please call 101 – select option 1 – and pass information to the Force Control Room, quoting reference number NYP-15052012-0195.
