Moped rider airlifted following collision with horse

8 May 2012

North Yorkshire Police were called at around 10.20am on Tuesday 8 May 2012 after reports of a road traffic collision on Moorcock Lane in Darley, Harrogate.

The collision involving a red Scooter and a horse occurred outside the old Navy barracks. The rider of the moped, a 17-year-old local man, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary suffering from suspected spinal injuries.

The road was clear at around 12pm.

Teresa Ann Bradley, aged 33, was riding her 14.2h welsh pony, Duke during the collision.

Teresa said:

He just came up behind flat out and ran straight into back of me on a straight road with clear visibility.

We don’t know the condition of Duke. Only time will tell if he will be able to be ridden again.

The vets have sedated him, cleaned him up and put on antibiotics – that’s all I know at the moment.

Teresa is currently in Harrogate Hospital awaiting to be seen in the Accident and Emergency Department for a precautionary check.
