Harrogate Fashion Designer catches the attention of Theo Paphitis

4 May 2012

Pat DawsonAn established Ladies Fashion Designer has caught the attention of Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis. Patricia Dawson Clothes of Bishop Thornton, Harrogate have been designing and manufacturing ladies clothing for over 30 years. The company which manufacturers all it’s clothing in Yorkshire, was among six small businesses to be selected by Theo Paphitis in his Small Business Sunday competition, which he runs via Twitter.

Each Sunday small businesses can tweet him directly and describe their business in one tweet, only tweets made in the time slot between 5.00 PM and 7.30 pm count. Theo reviews and chooses his favourite lucky six who are then re-tweeted. As he has over 230,000 followers, this provides a massive boost to the chosen lucky businesses.

Pat Dawson, Fashion Designer said:

We first heard about the initiative through our PR Consultant Raquel Derevo at 20 Twenty Marketing, she had seen the recent coverage of another SBS winner Harrogate Motorhomes and suggested we tweet. The majority of our customers are not twitter users and I have to say I was somewhat sceptical, so I was shocked to hear the news we had been selected as one of his chosen six this week. Within 48 hours of sending the tweet we had our business displayed on the homepage of his ‘TheopaphitisSBS’ website.

Founded in 1981, Patricia Dawson Clothes is one of a few remaining ladies clothing retailers who design and make all their clothes in England. They produce town and country clothing for ladies over the age of 50. Their collection includes leisurewear to classics, cruisewear to designer fleeces, all their items are individually designed and made in small quantities so they remain exclusive. Aswell as their retail shop in Thirsk they also trade online with .

Pat added:

Our range appeals to the over 50 age group who not only want everyday wear, but also have a demanding calendar and need smart elegant clothing which may be suitable for a range of occasions. Our ladies want to be well dressed and fashionable, but also want comfort, but not at the cost of style.

Over recent years we have seen an increasing demand for plus size clothing and requests for longer lengths. Many ladies cannot seem to find plus size high street fashion which delivers a good fit. We understand the more mature figure and in October 2011 extended our size range from 12 to 28.

Having Theo Paphitis recognise the business certainly adds credibility and we are excited to see what the next couple of weeks hold. We now join Harrogate Motorhomes in Theo’s exclusive #SBS Winners Club.
