Public concern as stranger approaches child near Harrogate school

PoliceCurrently circulating on facebook are rumours around an attempted abduction of a child from Oatlands School in Harrogate. This has been confirmed by the police as unfounded.

The police have not been involved with any incident at Oatlands School and have today contacted the headteacher of the the school. The headteacher confirmed that one pupil had reported being approached while outside their own home, but this was also confirmed as unfounded.

However, the police are currently investigating a reported incident near to New Park school  on 18 April 2012 where a child was approached by the passenger of a Silver BMW. They were was asked if they wanted a lift home but walked away without harm.

PC Sharon Rawlings said:

We are currently investigating an isolated incident that happened near to the New Park school in Harrogate, but we are not issuing any further warnings to the general public at this time.

Parents should just take the normal diligence whilst looking after their children.
