Man now charged after driving over youth in tent

PoliceThis is an  update following the incident near Barlby, in the Selby area, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday 11 March 2012 and involved a vehicle running over a tent.

A group of teenagers were camping in the field between York Road and the River Ouse.

A man approached the group and chatted with them and the conversation escalated into a disagreement. The man then threatened to run over their tent with his vehicle.

The man left the scene and returned a short time later in a white van and carried out his threat to run over the tent.

A 24-year-old man from Selby has been arrested following the incident. He has tonight (Monday 12 March 2012) been charged with two counts of attempted murder.

He remains in police custody and will appear at York Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 13 March 2012.

The 16-year-old boy who was injured as a result of the incident remains in York District Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
