Following a successful and hilarious series of 2011 shows, sitting room comedy club is ready to kick off its 2012 programme in fine style. Returning to its original home – the St George Hotel, Harrogate – Wednesday, February 8 will see promoter and resident MC Tom Taylor joined by comedians Nick Doody, Danielle Ward and Paul Sinha.
Tom said:
This is another fantastic line-up, a great opening fixture. We had a slightly extended Christmas and New Year break because I wanted to go on holiday so, essentially, this is the sitting room New Year party!
It’s come at a great time because everyone will be just about ready to re-emerge into society after eating too much, drinking too much and ‘spending time with irritating people’ too much. I can’t think of a better way to shrug off the winter depression than to attend a comedy club. SAD Lamps aren’t going to help much; they’ve got the word sad in them.
Our opening act, Nick Doody, will be familiar to Radio 4 listeners as one of the regular contributors to Political Animal and The Now Show. Universally feared critic Kate Copstick (who recently judged ITV’s Show Me The Funny with Alan Davies) described him as a “comic genius”; coming from her, that is praise indeed! She very rarely says things like that.
Danielle Ward can boast a CV featuring some of this country’s most seminal comedy programmes. A News Quiz regular, Danielle has also appeared on Last Comic Standing, Mock the Week and Newswipe with Charlie Brooker. Add her writing credits to that – Mongrels, The Lee Mack Show, Not Going Out – and you’ve got a seriously talented comedian.
Following Nick and Danielle isn’t going to be easy – though it most certainly will be a laughing matter – but in Paul Sinha we have a headline act of the highest calibre. All his Edinburgh shows have received widespread acclaim, this man is one of the best on the circuit. Of course he has numerous television and radio appearances but they fail to convey the side-splitting hilarity Paul can create when you see him live. He is a must see!
Tickets for the Wednesday, February 8 show at the St George Hotel, Harrogate at 8pm are priced at £10 and are available from the St George reception, Harrogate Tourist Information Centre or www.sittingroomcomedy.com
