MoD confirm Eurofighter Typhoon was given authorisation to go supersonic

Typhoon HarrogateThe MOD have confirmed a Typhoon was given authorisation to go supersonic in air space  West of Harrogate in North Yorkshire on 26 Jan 2012.

An MOD Spokesperson said:

The MoD can confirm that a Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from RAF Coningsby was authorised to go supersonic over land at 15:53 yesterday.

Any inconvenience caused to local residents is regretted.

The sonic boom was heard as far away as Cumbria and many local people reported windows being rattled and buildings shaken. There were concerns that there had been an earthquake or a major incident.

No damage has been reported and the local emergency services did not mobilise.

  1. I don’t see what the fuss was about a 2 second rumble is a fantastic price to pay to experience a fantastic SONIC BOOM. I loved it
