Man knocked to the ground in York and then stamped on

4 January 2012

PolicePolice in York are appealing for information following an assault in the city.

It occurred at around 3.30pm on Sunday 1 January 2012, when a 51-year-old man from Huddersfield was walking along Bootham towards Clifton Green. He was approached by two men who knocked him to the ground before kicking and stamping on him.

The victim managed to get away before he suffered any serious injuries. He was treated by paramedics and did not require treatment in hospital.

The only description of the offenders is that one had blond hair and the second man had dark hair.

PC Andrew Pearson, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

Thankfully the victim suffered only minor injuries.

It is possible that the assault may be football related, as the victim was wearing a top similar in style to the Mansfield Town strip, who were playing York City at Bootham Crescent at the time of the incident.
