Harrogate Town FC vs Guiseley AFC match preview

25 December 2011

Harrogate Town FCAfter all the presents have been opened and all the turkey devoured comes the festive football derby against Guiseley AFC on boxing day.

Simon Weaver’s men will be anxious to serve up an extra Christmas present of all three points following their defeat to Nuneaton last Saturday. New signing Alan White should make his debut along with the first chance for many fans to get a look at Michael Brough, who may well have a point to prove against his former team. There also may be chances for Dan Clayton and Robbie Youhill to show what they can do!

Guiseley have, once again, proved to be one of the strongest teams in our league. At present they sit in 3rd place and it will take a brave man to rule them out of a play-off place at least!

On the road, Guiseley have played 9 matches and have won 4 whilst drawing 3. They have scored thirteen but have conceded 11, so their weakness may be travel sickness.

They have several players who will be instantly recognised by Town fans, left defender/midfielder Dave Merris played for many years at Harrogate Town and will always be remembered as one of the greats of Wetherby Road. Midfielder Gavin Rothery also played at Town for one match (he is also the leading scorer for Guiseley at the moment) and fellow midfielder Ciaran Toner enjoyed a successful season for us last time around.
