Christmas Drink and Drug Drive Campaign 2011 – update

AccidentSince the campaign began on Thursday 1st December police have breath tested over 300 drivers and have arrested 16 people on suspicion of drink driving.

Seven of those people have been charged. Six of them will appear at court before Christmas and are likely to lose their licences.

In the early hours of Tuesday 6 December 2011 officers stopped a 37-year-old man from York on the eastbound carriageway of the A64 at Whitwell Hill.

He provided a positive breath test of 95 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath and was subsequently charged with drink driving.

He is due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on 4 January 2012.

A 23-year-old man from Humberside has been charged with drink driving after his BMW collided with a wall on York Road, Barlby, near Selby.

He was breathalysed at the roadside and provided a positive sample of 78 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He is due to appear at Selby Magistrates’ Court on 22 December 2011.

A 27-year-old man who was also in the vehicle was arrested in connection with the collision after neither man would state who was driving. However, he has since been released with no further action.

A 36-year-old man was arrested after police spotted him driving on the wrong side of the road on Darlington Road, Richmond at around 10.30pm on Sunday 4 December 2011.

Officers smelt alcohol on his breath when they stopped him and during a roadside test he provided a positive sample of 69 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He has been fast tracked to Northallerton Magistrates’ Court, where he is due to appear on 16 December 2011.

A 52-year-old man from Harrogate was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after officers stopped his vehicle on Cruet Fold in Hampsthwaite.

He provided a roadside breath test of 43 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.

A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving in Bedale at around 10.25pm on Sunday 4 December 2011.

CCTV cameras picked up the man leaving the car park of the Black Swan pub in a Ford Transit van and turning onto the A684 towards Aiskew.

Officers searched the local area and found the van parked on a drive on Badger Hill Lane with the engine running. The driver was breathalysed and provide a positive sample of 99 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.

Two 27 year-old men from Darlington were arrested on suspicion of drink driving on Saturday 3 December 2011.

Officers stopped a vehicle they were occupying on Oak Grove in Northallerton at around 12.25am. Neither man admitted to driving the vehicle, so police arrested them both after they each provided positive breath tests.

They have been released on police bail as enquiries continue.

A 24-year-old man from Norton was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after officers stopped his Audi on the A64 at Cranbeck in the early hours of Monday 5 December 2011.

He later provided a breath test which was just under the legal limit and was released without any further action.

A 37-year-old woman from Skipton provided a road side breath test of 135 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath after she collided with a parked car on Brougham Street on Sunday 4 December 2011.

She has been charged with drink driving and is due to appear at Skipton Magistrates’ Court on 16 December 2011.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle on Barden Road, Eastby, Skipton.

The man was parked up and sitting in the back seat with the keys still in the ignition at around 5.40am on Sunday 4 December 2011. He provided a positive breath test at the roadside and was taken into custody.

He has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.

A 62-year-old woman from Rufforth will appear at York Magistrates’ Court on 14 December 2011 charged with failing to provide a specimen and assaulting a police officer.

She was stopped on Fetter Lane at around 12.10am on Saturday 3 December 2011 and provided a positive breath test at the roadside. However, when she was taken to Fulford Road Police Station she refused to provide a further sample and assaulted a female police officer.

A 33-year-old woman from Keighley was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after being stopped by police at the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton 11.50pm on 1 December 2011.

She provided a blood sample and has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.

A 40-year-old man from Selby has been charged with drink driving after police stopped his Fiat Ducato Tipper on Bawtry Road in the early hours of Friday 2 December 2011.

He provided a roadside breath test of 94 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. He is due to appear at Selby Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 15 December 2011.

A 31-year-old man is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on 16 December after being charged with drink driving.

He was stopped by officers on Huntington Road at around 6.55pm on Saturday 3 December 2011. He provided a positive breath test of 57 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He has also been charged with driving whilst disqualified.
