Harrogate store reveals appetite for helping charity volunteers

17 November 2011

STAFF from a Harrogate superstore served up a surprise ‘thankyou’ to volunteers from one of the district’s leading charities.

Sainsbury’s on Wetherby Road have adopted the Harrogate office of the Carers’ Resource, based on North Park Road, as its ‘Charity of the Year’.

To help cement the partnership, they treated the charity’s team of unpaid volunteers to an inaugural thankyou feast in recognition of the work they do supporting the growing number of people caring for loved ones across the Harrogate community.

Anne Wells, the charity’s Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator said:

This is one of many different ways in which superstore staff are backing the charity until the middle of next year.

It was a wonderful for us to be able to thank our dedicated team of volunteers in this way and we are grateful to our friends at Sainsbury’s for making it happen.

It was a great opportunity to eat, meet – and, in some cases, even tweet! – at an event which applauded the contribution that volunteers make to our continuing success supporting carers.

The lunch was staged at St Robert’s Centre, Robert Street, Harrogate.

Sainsbury’s has also launched a second-hand book stall within the store to raise money for the charity and has appealed for more donations to ensure that it raises as much money as possible for the Carers’ Resource.

People can support the staff’s fund-raising efforts by simply dropping off their unwanted books in-store, where 50 pence from each one sold will be channelled towards the Carers’ Resource.
