Harrogate CAB is looking to move but needs HELP

6 November 2011

Citizens Advice BureauEach year the Harrogate Citizens Advice Bureau deals with 17,000 issues for the people of Harrogate and surrounding area.

They provides free support in a number of areas. Currently debt problems alone account for 34.0% of their advice, benefits 28.0%, employment 12.0% followed by housing, relationship breakdown and legal matters.

Demand for their services has increased year on year, at a rate of 30% per annum.

Although currently based on Victoria Avenue in Harrogate, they now need to move out of their offices and are looking for the support of the public to be able to do that.

Phillip Darvill, Trustee at Harrogate CAB explained further:

In 2012 we need to move out of our current office and are lucky to be in a position to have been given a very generous donation towards doing that.

Since last year we have seen a growth of 4,000 enquiries for help and the current offices have become very cramped for use to give the level of service that we want to.

We are very hugely grateful to have received such a generous grant of £500K but we need to raise a further £300K to enable us to move into purpose designed building that the charity would own.

The CAB is a charity, so we do rely on donations for much of what we do – we are asking for help to help make this happen.
