Day 1 in the VIDA/ Saint Michaels shop window

24 October 2011

Human MannequinsHarrogate business partners, Ben Davis and Jason Odle of VIDA Media, are settling into their new shop window home on Parliament Street today after an official countdown last night, which attracted a large crowd of onlookers and marked the beginning of a busy week of fundraising.

The two colleagues are hoping to raise lots of cash for local charity, Saint Michael’s Hospice during their stint as living mannequins and have lots of fun activities planned for the public, including the many local children who are currently on their half term holiday, to get involved in.

Tomorrow, passers-by will be invited to compete against Ben and Jason in an “Xbox Challenge”, and plans for later in the week include a cake decorating demonstration by Emma-Louise Trotter of Bespoke Cupcakes, performances from local musicians and DJs including Youcef Preston, Rob Reynolds and Oceans, and every lunchtime the chance to watch the pair being put through their paces by fitness expert, Nathan Garnham of B-Physical Fitness.

Jason said:

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of the local community. Everything from the eye-catching window graphic display, to the chairs we are sitting on, have been kindly donated by local businesses and everyone’s really got behind what we’re doing with over 120 people following us on Facebook.

We’re excited about the days ahead, especially the cocktail making demonstration being held by Alberts and the great Halloween weekend we’ve got lined up. We’re a bit more anxious about the planned leg waxing on Friday!

To get involved in all the activities, visit Ben and Jason at 47, Parliament Street throughout the week and follow their progress by visiting their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/themannequinchallenge

Donations can be posted through the shop’s letterbox or given on-line via www.justgiving.com/shopwindow
