By ‘Eck! Yorkshire Shines at Michelin Stars

The-Black-Swan, Oldstead, York

IT’s official! Yorkshire is the best place for dining outside London.

The county boasts more Michelin Star restaurants than any other county in the UK according to a top restaurant guide.

The Black Swan at Oldstead, North Yorkshire, is the sixth and latest venue in the county to have been awarded the prestigious star which recognises the finest cooking throughout the world.

Once a rundown pub, owners Anne and Tom Banks have transformed the venue into a stunning pub and restaurant near Byland Abbey in the North York Moors National Park.

Tom said:

When we took over the Black Swan five years ago, we never ever imagined that we would one day get a Michelin Star. It’s fantastic news!

Tom and Anne Banks bought the Black Swan in 2006 to save it from dereliction and to provide a living for their two sons, James and Tommy. All four members of the family are totally involved in the business as James manages the front of house and Tommy works as a chef in the kitchen. Adam Jackson heads a team of talented and enthusiastic chefs in the kitchen.

The Black Swan now joins the Pipe and Glass Inn, South Dalton; The Yorke Arms in Ramsgill; The Burlington at The Devonshire Arms in Bolton Abbey; The Box Tree in Ilkley and The Old Vicarage in Sheffield.
