Fatal collision on the A19 near Northallerton

Police investigating a fatal road collision are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The collision occurred at around 5.50pm on the evening of Monday 19 September 2011, on the A19 southbound carriageway between Northallerton and Thirsk at the junction with Over Silton.

The collision involved a silver Kia Sorrento 4 x 4 and a silver Ford Ka. The Sorento was travelling south and the Ford Ka was travelling from the Over Silton junction.

The driver of the Ford Ka, a 21-year-old woman from Middlesbrough sustained serious injuries during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kia Sorento, a 50-year-old West Yorkshire man was taken to the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton with minor injuries.

The road was closed in both directions while collision investigators examined the scene. The road reopened just after 11pm.

Police are appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time who either witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to impact to contact them.

  1. Eh? Restricted in what way? On what basis can you possibly write that comment – there is no indication given as to who may have been at fault (if indeed anyone was), or whether it was driver error, a third party, or mechanical failure.

    It’s a very sad event.

    I know which of those types of car I’d rather be travelling within in the event of an unfortunate accident – the Sorento.
