Police investigating a serious road traffic collision on the A61 have issued an urgent appeal for information.
Officers are appealing to all lorry drivers who traveled along the A61 this afternoon to check their vehicles for damage as they may have been involved in the collision without realising.
The incident occurred just before 3pm today (8 September 2011) between the North Ripley roundabout and the Brearton turn-off.
A woman driving a red Fiat Punto sustained serious injuries in the collision and police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Traffic Sergeant Paul Cording, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:
I am urging all lorry drivers who were in the area around the time of the collision to check their vehicles and light clusters for any damage.
It could be that they have been involved in the collision without realising it and they could have information vital to the investigation.
I am urging anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the police as soon as possible.
The A61 is currently closed (as of 17:20) at the scene of the collision and will remain closed for some time, as police work to establish the exact circumstances.
