North Yorkshire Fire Service technical road rescue team – best in the world

North Yorkshire Fire ServiceAfter months of training and preparation, teams from around the world gathered for the World Road Rescue Challenges in Wellington, New Zealand and faced some tough scenarios that took skill, determination, and team work to get through.

The competition was broken down in to 8 sub categories within the overall competition and North Yorkshire were outstanding; having the Best Technical Road Rescue Team in the world, the 3rd best Incident Commander, the 3rd best Trauma Team and overall are the 4th best Rescue Team in the world.

The team consisted of

  • Simon Wall – Incident Commander
  • Keith Ward and David Gledson – Medics
  • Rich Nicholson, Daz Kitchen and Steve Bake -Technical Rescue Team
  • Nicki Baker and David Gledson – Trauma Team

Andy Young the team manager said: “We were hoping for a top 10 finish so to come 4th is a fantastic achievement.”

Chris Anderson, Deputy Chief Fire Officer of North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service was delighted and added: “The team put so much effort in over the last few months training for this event; they thoroughly deserve this result.”
