Disctracted, from Boroughbridge, have just got into the Live and Unsigned final to be held at the O2 on the 27th July. The girls were voted through to the final using a wildcard text vote.
This will be the second time the girls have performed at the O2, from 9000 people they got through to the final of Open Mic in January and came 3rd in the under 18 section, a huge feat for a 10 and 12 year old.
Live and Unsigned is the largest national music competition for original artists; bands, vocal groups and solo artists. Over 10, 000 acts from across the country enter every year. Disctracted appeared in one of the Yorkshire Regional Finals in Dewsbury and sailed through to the Regionals solely on the judges votes. The 2 top acts from the Regional final go onto the Live and Unsigned Festival at the O2.
The song Protest was written by the girls whilst on holiday last year.
Disctracted is a young duo singing group made up of two sisters, Emily and Danielle Atkinson age 12 and 11, who have been professionally singing and performing together since 2009. They sing many different music genres, but mainly love to perform Pop and Indie Rock. As well as singing well know and popular covers, they write their own songs and music.
2010 was an exciting year for the girls. They entered lots of local and national singing competitions for the very first time and were extremely successful:- York Y-Factor (winners), York Community Idol (finalists), Festival4Stars (regional finalists), Music-all-Youth (grand finalists), Power Sound (Best Newcomer), Forget Me Not Factor (finalists) plus much more.
The girls biggest success last year was getting through to the Open Mic UK Grand Final which took place at the O2 Arena in London on the 15th January 2011. From 9000 applicants they came 3rd in the u18s section – an amazing achievement. This year is proving to be busier than ever with the girls performing around the country supporting many local and national charity events.
All their performances and events can be seen on their facebook page.
Both girls as well as being singer song writers are also keen musicians. Emily plays both electric and acoustic guitar and Danielle both keyboard and piano.
Emily attends St Aidan’s High School in Harrogate and Danielle goes to Green Hammerton Primary School.
