Heads will be turned skywards on the final afternoon of the 2011 The Great Yorkshire Show which is supporting the armed forces charity, Help for Heroes at this year’s event.
Weather permitting, on Thursday 14 July members of The Red Devils, The Parachute Regiment’s Freefall Team, will jump into the show’s Main Ring as the climax to a fund raising campaign for the popular charity.
As well as providing a fantastic spectacle, their sky dive is the culmination of the Back to Earth campaign which has seen World Cup winner and Former England & British Lions flanker Neil Back and famous ex England rugby stars, parachute with The Red Devils. Neil has strong local links as he is also Head Coach of the Leeds Carnegie Rugby Club.
He will be present in the show’s Main Ring to receive the cheque, which is expected to total more than £30,000, and also present a Help for Heroes rugby ball which will also be taken to the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. He will hand over the cheque to war hero Lance Corporal Tom Neathway of the Parachute Regiment representing Help for Heroes. Neil also plans to include current England rugby internationals and friends in the occasion.
Bill Cowling, Honorary Show Director said: “We are delighted to be supporting such an important charity and I am sure the Great Yorkshire crowds will feel exactly the same and The Red Devils will receive a tremendous welcome when they arrive in the main ring.”
The fantastic total is sure to receive a “top up” as at the Help for Heroes stand there is an opportunity for visitors to buy raffle tickets. The prize will be a day out and tandem skydive with The Red Devils and the winner will be announced in the Main Ring.
