Two in custody after York Deanery break-in

Two men are in police custody following a burglary at York Minster’s Deanery.

Officers were alerted by the Minster Police after reports that the premises, in Minster Yard, had been entered via a forced rear door at around 5.30pm on Monday 11 April 2011.

As police arrived at the scene the two suspects ran from the property and after a short pursuit, a 39-year-old man was detained outside the Deanery and a 39-year-old man was arrested near Treasurer’s House.

The two men were found to be in possession of property and jewellery and were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

They remain in police custody as enquiries continue.
