Harrogate Hockey Club under 10s crowned North of England champions

Harrogate Hockey Club under 10s were crowned North of England champions on Sunday.

Their victory followed glory in the Yorkshire finals the weekend before.

Harrogate beat Ben Rhydding, Alderly Edge, Thirsk and Wakefield during Sunday’s round robin matches. They then went on to beat Alderly Edge in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out in the semi-final, followed by a 3-1 thrashing of Ben Rhydding in the final.The goals came from player of the tournament Charlie Willis (1) and Thomas Nash (2).

Coach Gary Nash, who is also in charge of Harrogate men’s newly-promoted first team, said: ” I was delighted with the team’s performance. The way they conducted themselves both on and off the pitch was excellent. They had some fantastic support on the day and deserved their victory.”

The champions who received a medal each and a trophy, were Ally Young (capt), Charlie Willis, Tom Gugan, Alfie Weaver, Thomas Nash, Tom Peakman, Jess Dunmore, Oliver Jordan and Alfie Willis.
