Fire at Council Gritter vehicle Depot

17 January 2011

At around 9pm on 17 Jan 11, passers-by using the railway foot bridge notified the emergency services of a fire in the Council owned, gritter lorry storage facility on Claro Road in Harrogate.

5 fire engines and a platform attended and quickly extinguished a fire in the building. Water was pumped onto the roof using the platform and firefighters gained access to the front.

The building is used to store the council gritter vehicles and there are not believed to be any injuries.

Harrogate Council have confirmed that they have one bulk gritter out of service, one being assessed and a further vehicle that can not currently be accessed due to the incident.

North Yorkshire County Council have loaned Harrogate Council a number of vehicles and planned gritting will not be effected.
