Police are still  looking for the driver of a Horsebox who stopped at the scene of the accident but then carried on their journey before the arrival of the Police.

Plompton serious collision update 4:45pm 12 January 2011

This is an update following the serious collision at Plompton near Harrogate. The vehicles involved were a green Vauxhall Astra travelling towards Wetherby and a black Seat Leon travelling towards Harrogate.

The driver of the Astra, a 46-year woman from the Harrogate area was taken to Harrogate District Hospital with serious injuries where she remains. The driver of the Seat, a man aged 49 was uninjured.

Police are still appealing for the occupants of the dark-coloured horsebox to come forward. Further investigation has revealed that the horsebox stopped at the scene and spoke to the drivers involved but carried on their journey in the Wetherby direction when the ambulance arrived. Police are appealing for the occupants of the horsebox to contact them.

To recap, the collision was reported at 12:50pm today (12 January), the road was closed to allow officers to examine the scene and was reopened at 4:30pm today.

Serious collision near Harrogate – horsebox driver sought Police are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the A661, Wetherby Road at Plompton near Harrogate.

The crash was reported at 12:50pm today (12 January 2011) and involves two cars. The road has been closed in both directions with diversions in place at Kestral Roundabout and the Rudding Lane junction.

Officers would like to trace a dark-coloured horsebox which was travelling towards Wetherby at the time of the collision. The driver may not be aware that a collision has taken place, however, they may have information which could help the investigation into the collision.

The horsebox driver and any other witnesses are asked to contact police on 0845 60 60 247.

Ambulance are at the scene, and at this stage, it is believed two people have been injured, one seriously.
