Two arrests after teenage girl dies in fatal collision

The girl was previously said to be 16 but has now been confirmed as aged 15.

The two men arrested have now been confirmed as aged 18 and 21 and not both 21.

Police investigating a road traffic collision which killed a teenage girl have arrested two men in connection with the incident.

The 16-year-old girl from Pickering was pronounced dead at the scene after a blue Vauxhall Corsa she was a passenger in left the road and overturned on the A170 at Snainton, at around 6.30pm on Saturday 8 January 2011.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man from Pickering was taken to Scarborough District Hospital suffering from slight injuries. He was discharged this morning (Sunday 9 December 2011) and is currently in police custody in connection with the collision.

Another 18-year-old man, also from Pickering, who was driving a white Ford Fiesta, was arrested at the scene of the incident and is also helping police with their enquiries.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact them as a matter of urgency.

Traffic Sergeant Neil Campbell, of North Yorkshire Police’s Road Policing Group, said: “It is vital to the investigation that anyone who witnessed the collision gets in touch with the police immediately.

“I am particularly interested in speaking to anyone who saw the blue Vauxhall Corsa prior to the collision or a white Ford Fiesta which was travelling in company with it.”

The collision occurred on the A170 Pickering to Scarborough road at Snainton, just prior to the junction of the B1258 to Yedingham, on the Pickering side of Chris Hodgson’s car showroom.
