Man killed in fatal A66 collision – now named

The identity of a man who died in a road traffic collision on the A66 at Gilling West on Monday 3 January 2011 has now been named as Daniel Green, aged 20, from Gilling West. The inquest into his death was opened and adjourned this morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A66 at Gilling West.

The collision, involving a green Peugeot 306, travelling on the westbound carriageway, and a HGV, occurred at the junction with Gilling Bank – known locally as the Melsonby crossroads, at around 5.15pm on Monday 3 January 2011.

The driver of the Peugeot, the 20-year-old local man suffered serious injuries in the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed until around 1am on Tuesday 4 January 2010 as police conducted their investigations into the incident.

Traffic Constable Tony Leonard, of Richmond Road Policing Group, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the police with any information that could help the investigation.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and any information could be vital to our enquiries.”
